Preface to Petroleum Engineers Guide to Oil Field Chemicals and Fluids

This manuscript is an extension and replace of Oil Field Chemicals, which appeared in 2003. The textual content focuses primarily on the natural chemistry of oil subject chemical substances.

As indicated by the title, engineers with much less background in natural chemistry are possible to use this textual content, so varied sketches of the chemical substances and further explanations and feedback are included within the textual content with which an informed natural chemist will definitely be acquainted.

The fabric offered here’s a compilation from the literature, together with patents, organized within the order wanted by a typical job. It begins with drilling fluids and associated lessons of compounds, equivalent to fluid loss, bit lubricants, and so forth.

Then it crosses over to the subsequent main subjects: cementing, fracturing, enhanced restoration, and it ends with pipelines and spill. A number of the chemical substances are utilized in multiple foremost subject; for instance, surfactants are utilized in almost all purposes.

To those chemical substances, the final three chapters are devoted. As environmental elements are gaining growing significance, this concern is handled rigorously.

How to Use Petroleum Engineers Guide to Oil Field Chemicals and Fluids

Index

There are 4 indices: an index of tradenames, an index of acronyms, an index of chemical substances, and a common index.

If an acronym happens for the primary time in a chapter, it’s expanded to its long-form, e.g., acrylic acid (AA) and positioned within the index. Subsequent occurrences solely present the brief kind, i.e., AA. If the time period happens solely as soon as in a particular chapter, it’s given solely within the long-form.

Within the chemical index, boldfaced web page numbers refer to the sketches of structural formulation or to response equations.

Bibliography

A bibliography is given for every chapter and is sorted within the order of prevalence. After the bibliography, an inventory of tradenames which can be discovered within the references and which chemical substances are behind these names as far is thought, is added.

ACKNOWLEDGMENTS

I’m indebted to our native library, Dr. C. Hasenhuttl, Dr. J. Delanoy, and ¨ Mr. C. Slamenik for assist in literature acquisition. Thanks are given to Professor I. Lakatos, College of Miskolc, who directed my curiosity to this matter, and to my spouse Margit who inspired me to finalize the fabric once I felt exhausted.

Final however not least, I need to thank the writer for the sort assist, particularly, Ken McCombs and Jill Leonard
