You are inside, who is outside… Brother, the thought of relief is the thought of a real man! Although he appears to be middle aged by his age, but even today he has an innocent child in his heart who is speaking the truth without any fear! I believe that readers should also accept this ghazal collection ‘Existing’ with great love and respect.

राहत साहब मेरे बड़े पुराने दोस्त हैं, लगभग चालीस बरस से मेरी और उनकी दोस्ती कायम है ! वो एक बड़े शायर और एक सच्चे इन्सान हैं ! सच्चा इन्सान उसे कहता हूँ, जो अच्छाइयों को ही नहीं बुराइयों को भी प्यार कर सके ! मेरा व्यक्तित्व भी अच्छाइयों और बुराइयों का नमूना है और राहत का भी ! इसीलिए तो मैं कहता हूँ कि फरिश्तों के टूटे हुए ख्याब का एक नाम राहत है ! राहत ने जीवन और जगत के विभिन्न पहलुओं पर जो गजले कही हैं, वो हिंदी-उर्दू की शायरी के लिए एक नया दरवाजा खोलती हैं ! वर्तमान परिवेश पर जो टिप्पणी उन्होंने अपनी गजलों में की है वो आज की राजनीती, आज की साम्प्रदायिकता, धार्मिक पाखण्ड और पर्यावरण पर बड़े ही मार्मिक भाव से की है ! छोटी-बड़ी बहर की गजल में उनका प्रतीक और बिम्ब विद्यमान है, जो नितान्त मौलिक और अद्वितीय है ! उनके कितने ही शेर ऐसे हैं जो जुबान पर बरबस बैठे जाते हैं ! नए रदीफ़, नई बहर, नए मजमून, नया शिल्प उनकी गजलों में जादू की तरह बिखरा है और पढने व् सुननेवाले सभी के दिलों पर छ जाता है ! राहत की शायरी तसव्वुफ़ की उच्चतम ऊँचाइयों तक पहुंचती है ! उनका ये शेर मेरे जेहन में अक्सर कौंधता रहता है – किसने दस्तक दी है दिल पर, कौन है? आप तो अन्दर हैं, बाहर कौन है… भाई राहत की सोच एक सच्चे इन्सान की सोच है ! वो यद्यपि अपनी उम्र से अधेड़ दिखाई पड़ते हैं लेकिन आज भी उनके दिल में एक मासूम-सा बच्चा है जो बिना किसी भयके सच बोलना जनता है ! मुझे विश्वास है कि पाठक उनके इस गजल-संग्रह ‘मौजूद’ को भी बड़े प्यार और सम्मान से ग्रहण करें.
