Book Description:
This book is the only one to give a complete, up-to-date, and in-depth look at all flow phenomena in centrifugal pumps, such as how fluid flow interacts with vibrations and wear on materials. The scope includes all aspects of hydraulic design, 3D-flow phenomena, part-load operation, cavitation, numerical flow calculations, hydraulic forces, pressure pulsations, noise, pump vibrations (especially bearing housing vibration diagnostics and solutions), pipe vibrations, pump characteristics, and pump operation, design of intake structures, effects of highly viscous flows, pumping of gas-liquid mixtures, hydraulic transport of solids, fatigue damage to impellers or other pump parts. As a new feature, the 3rd edition adds a fully analytical method for designing radial impellers. This method eliminates the random choices that used to be part of the design process. Vibrations, noise, unsteady flow, stability, hydraulic excitation forces, and cavitation have all been discussed in much more detail. To make it easier to use the information, the methods and procedures for the different calculations and failure diagnostics discussed in the text are put together in about 150 pages of tables, which may be almost unique in the open literature. The text focuses on real-world applications in the industry and doesn’t get bogged down with math or theory. To find workable solutions, it is essential to understand the physical mechanisms at play. The book’s primary goal is to help people understand this, which will help pump engineers in industry, in schools, and among students.
