A Midsummer Night’s Dream

A Midsummer Night’s Dream is a comedy written by William Shakespeare c. 1595 or 1596. The play is set in Athens, and consists of several subplots that revolve around the marriage of Theseus and Hippolyta. One subplot involves a conflict between four Athenian lovers.

One of the early comedies of Shakespeare, A Midsummer Night’s Dream can be suitably called a ‘wedding play’, as it presents an atmosphere of the wedding celebration.

There is a complex interlocking of plots as the play features the adventures of two young Athenian couples who come to the woods as a part of their plan to elope from their houses.
